Determination of Optimum Building Envelope Parameters of a Room concerning Window-to-Wall Ratio, Orientation, Insulation Thickness and Window Type

The building envelope includes all materials (glazing, external walls, doors, etc.) that separate the conditioned space from outside environment. Building characteristics significantly influence energy consumption of buildings. In this study, research was carried out to find optimum design parameters, such as insulation thickness, orientation, glazing type, and window-to-wall ratio a room, using actual climatic data two cities with different according Köppen classification. thickness window type minimizes net present worth façade over 20 years lifetime gave values. addition, effect various infiltration rate through envelope, room set-point temperature, fuel on cost also analyzed. It found appropriate selection windows, would lead significant reduction in annual consumption. Despite having lowest initial investment cost, single glazed windows had highest requirement cost. double oriented towards south-west, yielded minimum both locations. Results showed wall is 9 cm Hakkari (Dsa—Continental Climate) 6 Istanbul (Csa—Mild Climate).
